Addressing Long-Term Health Consequences of Strangulation
Webinar Recording | Webinar PowerPoint & Course Materials
|
There is now mounting evidence in the medical literature that intimate partner violence, including strangulation, has long-term negative health consequences for survivors. This impact, what Dr. Ellen Taliaferro terms the Pandora Effect, lingers long after the bruises fade, the bones mend, and the abuse is over. Still, many victims, their friends and relatives, and those who serve them in the domestic violence advocacy, medical and law enforcement communities fail to understand how significantly this lingering footprint of violence is affecting their well-being and ability to carry on a normal life. During this webinar, Dr. Taliaferro discussed recent research and commonly diagnosed symptoms and health consequences of strangulation survivors, including behavioral changes and brain injuries. This webinar provides the necessary understanding and knowledge to assist victims in their journey to long-term recovery.
This session is approved for 1 MCLE credit and 1 CEU unit. The Alliance is a California approved provider of CEU for MFTs and LCSW (Provider #5095) and MCLE for attorneys (Provider #15493).
