International FJC Alliance
The Family Justice Center Alliance works on national and international projects and with centers from around the world. There are currently 16 Centers funded through the President’s Initiative; 24 Centers funded through community-based initiatives and 3 international Centers operating in Croydon, England; Monterey, Mexico; and Waterloo, Canada under the International Family Justice Center Alliance. The International Family Justice Center Alliance is an alliance of Family Justice Centers from around the world. Beginning in 2002, the City of San Diego developed an informal sister city relationship with the City of Croydon, England to work toward developing a Family Justice Center modeled after the San Diego Family Justice Center. Within five years of the opening of the San Diego Family Justice Center in 2002, representatives from over 60 countries had visited the San Diego Family Justice Center to learn more about the co-location model. Those international site visits lead to requests for training, consulting, strategic planning, work exchanges and leadership conferences in countries around the world. The synergy all of those trainings, meetings and conferences sparked the creation of the International Family Justice Center Alliance. Today there are centers pending in Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, Germany, Guam, Samoa, South Africa, Jordan and Bahrain.
