Gov. Jerry Brown signed legislation by Sen. Lois Wolk, D-Solano, on Monday evening to support critical domestic violence prevention and intervention services for victims and their families in Solano County.

"Collaboration among key agencies, organizations, and local government is crucial in the prevention of domestic violence," Wolk said. "Solano County has built an impressive consortium to provide services to our residents. This new law enables them to continue providing these important and often life-saving services."

Without the extension provided by SB 154, Solano County's authority to use this funding option would have ended on Jan. 1.

"The county's efforts have proven exceedingly effective. I applaud the governor's decision to sign SB 154, enabling the county to continue providing these critical services to domestic violence victims and their families," Wolk concluded.

Under the measure, the county is required to provide a follow up report, due by July 1, 2014, on the program's ongoing effectiveness.

SB 154 had widespread support within the Solano County area including the Solano County Board of Supervisors, sheriff, district attorney, probation department, and a variety of domestic violence service providers.
