One area business is celebrating a birthday Monday by helping to raise awareness about abuse.

Four years ago, the Family Justice Center of St. Joseph County opened its doors to help support survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking.

The center is a one-stop health center that has advocates available for support, offers free legal services, and a place to tell your story. It can also provide the needed help to leave a violent situation and move on to a safer, and more stable, future.

Director of Victim Services Lucette Higgins said, "Victims are often afraid of starting a process that they don't see the end too. Here it's all victim centered and it provides them the tools that they need to escape a violent home.”

The Family Justice Center has an open door policy Monday through Friday between 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. They also feature a 24-hour help line at 574-289-HELP.
