Domestic Violence in 2011
December 28,  2011

The Domestic Violence statistics for the Montogmery area for 2011 won't be tabulated till the middle of next year. But the head of the One Place Family Justice Center predicts an increase.

The Family Justice Center offers a kind of one-stop-shop for victims. They, and their children, can receive help from a number of social-services agencies in one place.

Executive Director Steve Searcy says the center had seen many hundreds of victims come to them for help since they opened in October of 2010, people who he says might not have reported directly to police.

Searcy says The South offers a potent brew for domestic violence: a large gun population, a large sporting community, alcohol, and people with a lower educational level. Add the emotions of the end of year holidays, and this can be a particularily dangerous time of year for domestic violence victims.

He urges victims who are in need of immediate help to call 911, others can call the Center at 334-262-7378.
