A commemoration event on Friday will honor the victims of domestic violence and celebrate the efforts to stop the violence.

The Solano County Office of Family Violence Prevention, Solano Family Justice Center, Lift3 Support Group and the Solano Partnership Against Violence will commemorate "A Day of Remembrance" in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Friday at the Solano County Events Center, 601 Texas St., Fairfield.

"This is a bitter-sweet event that re-energizes our hope for a better future without domestic violence," said Carolyn Wold of the Office of Family Violence Prevention. "We are recognizing the tragedy of anyone who has lost their life at the hands of domestic violence and celebrating the victory of those who have survived and the outpouring of compassion in our community to stop the violence."

As part of the event, Sen. Lois Wolk, D-Solano, will be presented the inaugural Robin Jenkins Memorial Award. Other awards being presented include the Office of Family Violence Prevention Inspiration Award and the Robin Jenkins Founders Award.

The keynote speaker will be Vic Jenkins, the father of domestic violence victim Robin Jenkins, for whom the award is named. Other speakers include Assemblymember Mariko Yamada, D-Solano, Supervisor Barbara Kondylis, District Attorney Don du Bain and Claudia Humphrey from Lift3 Support Group.
