A Taste Of Coronado Returns To Town October 12
October 3, 2011 By Coronado Eagle & Journal Staff Presented by the Coronado Junior Woman’s Club, with more than 20 local eateries including newcomers The Tavern and Leroy’s Kitchen+Lounge, A Taste of Coronado will take place Wednesday, October 12 beginning at 5:30 p.m. “We were really pleased with the turnout and involvement from last year’s event,” said Junior’s president Deann Brown, and happy to have returning as well as new restaurants participate to benefit some really deserving organizations.” This years beneficiaries are the San Diego Family Justice Center and Coronado SAFE’s Bully-Free Zone Initiative. “One of our members has a close friend who dealt with domestic violence and after hearing her story we really wanted to lend our support to an organization that works with victims to get them back on their feet and help them move forward.” According to the organization’s website the vision of the San Diego Family Justice Center is “to create a network of national and international Family Justice Centers and other models of co-located, multi-agency service centers for victims of family violence and their children with close working relationships, shared training and technical assistance, collaborative learning processes, and coordinated funding assistance.” October is Domestic Violence Prevention month said Brown which played a factor in the Juniors’ decision as did learning more about the center which Brown said works as a “one-stop shop” giving victims to access to legal and psychological counsel and other civil services as they work through their cases. The decision to include Coronado SAFE as a beneficiary came, Brown said, as a result of the organization’s new direction. “They’re being proactive, not reactive, which is important when it comes to our children’s safety. My son was involved in the Drug Store [a dramatic half-day prevention program for the local sixth grade classes designed to raise awareness of the consequences of drug and alcohol abuse] and it was honestly one of the most emotional experiences I’ve ever had,” she said. It was after that, that she said the club took a closer look at the organization. “We hope residents will feel the same way about these issues that we do and come out to support these deserving organizations,” she said. Concerning the night of the event, participants should check-in at Rotary Park at Orange and Isabella Avenues, Brown said. Trolley cars will be available to transport attendees between the participating businesses located at or near the Ferry Landing and those at the southwestern end of Orange Avenue. “We’re trying to secure a second check-in point at the Ferry Landing so hopefully that will be taken care of soon,” said Brown. There are a limited amount of tickets available at $35 each in advance and can be purchased on the event’s website: www.atasteofcoronado.com. Tickets are available the day of the event for $45 each and can be purchased at Rotary Park in Coronado. “Patrons can also turn in the e-ticket to our main ticket tent at Rotary Plaza,“ she said. Brown was quick to encourage ticket purchase sooner than later. “This event sold out last year, so please buy your tickets early so you don’t miss out on all the fun.” More information and tickets for A Taste of Coronado can be purchased by going to www.atasteofcoronado.com.
